I’ve thought about it, but I decided against it.
Maybe I’m acting against my own best interests here… but it seems to me rather frivolous to add a strip of icons on every page so that users can share the stuff here to some social media platform.
If you want to share, you can do it, fairly easily. If you are seeing this page on a phone or a tablet, I expect that the social platforms you use are integrated with your web browser. You can use select share in your browser, and then you can share with whatever app you have installed. Isn’t this great?
If you are seeing this page on a computer, it depends on your OS. I’d expect that Windows and macOS users, with the appropriate apps installed, should get the same facilities as on a tablet or a phone. I’m on Debian, however, and it is a tiny bit more complicated. It just adds one step, however. I can share the page to my phone, and then I’m back to the same scenario as the previous paragraph.
So it is quite doable to share what you read here.
Conversely, if I add a strip of icons to my site, I’m going to have to decide what I list and what I leave out. I’m not a fan of Facebook, Twitter and the like. Should I include them? Conversely, I’m a fan of the fediverse. However, I don’t know of a single icon I can add that will work for everyone, seeing as we’re all spread on different machines. Things get complicated quickly.
So I’ve decided to just not add those icons. However, you can share and are welcome to share.
